Its an ideal move to make when you think someone has a polarized range to bluff/very weak hand or monster because both of these are going to raise a lot of the time, its also important to note that he should have more bluffs in his range than monsters so that you extract more from bluffs instead of just jamming in because villain never folds monsters.
Ex. flop goes check check, you bet turn with the nuts or something very strong, and the guy raises (you figure he is bluffing a lot or has made something very strong/slowplayed a hand), you can just call here and donk river small to induce a bluff/value raise.
